About

I am originally from the small town of Dunoon, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll.  With piping running in the family it is here that I started my initial piping lessons under the tutelage of my uncle, P/M Jim Henderson.  Without his educated and knowledgable input to my playing I would not be able to list my successes to date.

After moving to Glasgow to study a BA (Scottish Music - Piping) I had the opportunity to study under a number of great pipers, all of which have shaped my playing in different ways and whose input I am grateful for.

I am a regular competitor around the solo piping circuit here in Scotland and have been very fortunate to take prizes at some of the most prestigious events.  Some of my notable ones include:

  • 1st in the Gold Medal at the Northern Meeting, Inverness

  • 1st in the Gold Medal at the Argyllshire Gathering, Oban

  • 1st in the Former Winners MSR at the Argyllshire Gathering, Oban

  • 1st in the MSR at the Masters Piping Competition, Glasgow

  • 1st in the Silver Medal at the Northern Meeting, Inverness

  • 1st in the A grade March at the Argyllshire Gathering, Oban

  • 1st in the A grade Strathspey and Reel at the Argyllshire Gathering, Oban

  • 1st in the JB Robertson Silver Rose Bowl (Marches) at the Scottish Piping Society of London’s annual competition

  • 1st in the Hornpipe and Jig at the Northern Meeting, Inverness

  • 3rd in the MSR at the Glenfiddich Piping Championships, Blair Castle

I am also very fortunate to have played in some of the most prestigious pipe bands in the world.  I was a member of the Scottish Power pipe band for four years before joining Inveraray and District for the 2010 competing season.  In 2014 I was promoted to the position of Pipe Sergeant and since then the band has won two World Championship titles (2017 & 2019) in addition to 12 Major Championships.

After leaving university in 2010 I have been actively employed as a Piping Instructor in some of the most prestigious private schools in Scotland.  Firstly at George Heriot's and currently at Fettes College.  In addition to my day job I have taught at piping schools and delivered workshops across Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
